Just As I Am

Hopefully, you will find inspiration in this devotional I wrote recently.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)

I saw a bumper sticker the other day which stated one of my favorite Bible verses; “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” Jeremiah 1:5a. This verse always produces a mental picture of God working in a lab poring over my parents DNA to create the me of His choosing. “Ah, this strand will give her her father’s dark curly hair. And this her mother’s button nose. But to accomplish the purpose I have for her, she must have compassion and empathy so I will give her this gene so she inherits her father’s tremors,” says God to Himself.

When I look in the mirror and see hair that refuses to lie flat, and a nose that is less than model-perfect; when my shaky hands have trouble keeping dinner on the fork, I remember what is said in Psalm 139:14  (NIV) “…I am fearfully and wonderfully made; and your works are wonderful…” God assembled my designer genes according to His Master plan. Just as I am, I am perfectly equipped to do God’s will.

PRAYER: Father, God, thank you for creating me according to your plan for my life. Help me to reflect your glorious image in all that I do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
